The following information has been prepared to help you understand what you must do before you arrive at the hospital and what to expect during your stay in our hospital.
Pre-admission After seeing your Surgeon, you will be given two (2) hospital forms: Patient information and Health Information. Both forms must be completed by you and emailed or faxed to the hospital at least 5 days prior to your operation. A Nurse must review this paperwork and approve your admission before the operation can go ahead so please ensure this paperwork is sent as soon as possible and with as much details about your medical history as possible. Your Anaesthetist will also contact you via phone prior to your admission to discuss your medical history and pre-admission.
Admission You will be admitted by the nursing staff. Please have your Medicare card and health fund details with you at the time of admission. Once your account is settled, you will proceed in to the waiting bay where you will be seen by your surgeon, anaesthetist and nursing staff. After you change into the hospital gown, a nurse will take you to the operating theatre. After your surgery you will be transferred to a recovery room.
Recovery room 1st Stage Recovery-during your stay nursing staff will continue to monitor your progress and undertake regular observations. 2nd Stage Recovery-once you feel better, you will be transferred to a comfortable recliner chair, where you will be given light refreshments before discharge.
Discharge Before leaving you will be given written and verbal post-operative instructions and follow-up appointment with your doctor. You will be given phone numbers of who to call should you have any concerns. Please make sure you have someone responsible to drive you home, as you will not be able to drive yourself or go home alone by taxi. You should have someone stay with you overnight after your procedure. Should you develop an infection that required antibiotics within 28 days after your procedure, you must notify the Hospital by calling 9537-3638 When you get home During the first 24 hours after your anesthetic, you must not drive a car, operate machinery, drink alcohol, take sedatives and sleeping tablets or sign legal documents.
